Meet Justin Spann

Much of my experience is in the role of a trainer, facilitator & strategist.

- As a trainer, I have worked in both the collegiate and church environments. Leading and developing training for individuals and teams in cross-cultural conflict resolution, dynamics of multicultural recruitment and engagement, developing healthy intercultural conversation and engagement skills, etc.

- As a facilitator, I have helped others to understand how to approach racial and ethnic unity through healthy intercultural dialogue.

- As a strategist, I have partnered with top-level leaders to develop strategies for multicultural marketing, management, recruitment, and engagement. I help leaders establish tangible and achievable goals and implement strategies to accomplish those goals. My goal is to help build bridges and then to equip individuals and organization to maintain, and to cross, the bridges they've built.

Justin Spann has had a profound impact on my understanding racial justice & reconciliation. 15-20 years ago, when I was the Vice President of a university, I was assigned to oversee the school's educational programming in the area of racial diversity. During that time. I had much to learn and made many mistakes but Justin graciously coached, confronted, and encouraged me. Justin has a rare blend of passion and objectivity when it comes to educating and coaching others in this area.

Justin and I worked together for several years. He was a friend who guided me towards a greater understanding around issues of race and class. One of his greatest gifts is his ability to see all sides of an issue. I could always count on him to let me safely surface questions which led to new awakenings. Anyone engaging with Justin will grow. He has served in so many diverse contexts that there's not an issue he has not thought through. And he's safe. And that means a lot.

Justin served as the Director of Diversity Student Programming when I was a student at my alma mater. He led with intentionality and made me feel like I not only belonged but that I could lead and succeed despite the obstacles I had to overcome as a black female student in a predominantly white institution. Justin leads with grace and he's not afraid to speak the truth in love.

Justin is a bridge builder. Justin is passionate, thoughtful, and generous in his interactions. He offers insightful questions that aide in bringing others along in a deeper understanding of what the Bible says about racial justice and unity. Justin is a gifted communicator and thinker with years of experience in leadership in Christian higher education and the local church. His experience, passion and affable personality make him a great coach.

As NextGen worship Pastor, I oversee the Worship Arts Ministry for both our Student (age 11-17) and Young Adult (Age 18-35) communities. In addition to leading all our NextGen worship teams and interns across three campuses, the focus of NextGen is training and coaching our developing leaders. Because our church is ethnically and socioeconomically diverse, I also facilitate training on issues of diversity and multiethnic engagement for our staff and act as an advisor on these issues for our senior leadership. I also serve as the adult services worship pastor for one of our campuses.
