Cliff started a collaborative initiative in the wake of George Floyd called Discipleship Against Racism Think Tank (DARTT) that met for several months. The platform involved a Zoom meeting where individuals of all races and backgrounds were able to openly discuss their opinions on the church and its role in promoting unity. Book studies were assigned but we would also have open discussions. Cliff facilitated discussions either on the materials or on current events, frequently asking thought provoking questions. This group did not always agree on methodology or even how we experienced the events of the year but Cliff made sure everyone was heard and respected. He was open to tough, uncomfortable questions and leaned on the expertise of others when a question could be better answered by someone else. The whole forum allowed me to rethink how as a leader I can better shepherd and care for people of color, things I might be blind to, and how best to reflect Christ to a diverse community.

Lead Pastor - Faith Community Church
Cliff has served first as my Pastoral Mentor and then my mentor through a small group called D.A.R.T (Discipleship Against Racism Think Tank. He helped me to process my thoughts, desires, and logic around creating a biblical worldview concerning racial justice and discrimination. Cliff had us study the works of Jemar Tisby, the bible and other selections to help us relationally navigate and see racial issues that exist on our street corners and neighborhoods. He challenged us and held us accountable to each week working with others to create discussions around seeking racial reconciliation, reaching out to our ethnic minority neighbors, and creating a community that doesn't look like us. His work was helpful for us to see but also do the work of bringing racial reconciliation to our communities. On a side note, as a white Father of a black son (12 years old), I now know how to lead my son in this world with integrity and perseverance.

Pastor - Rolling Hills Church
Cliff attended our church while living in Pittsburgh. After the events of the George Floyd killing, I asked Cliff to lead our church in a discussion on race, faith, healing, and finding a way forward for the church to be an example to the world with regards to race relations and brother/sisterhood. I asked this knowing that this would not be like a typical opportunity for him to share these things because he was not a consultant coming into a setting, dropping a few bombs and leaving. He was there with us. Living life amongst us. Participating in ministries with us. These were friends, partners, and fellow members of the church that he was sharing his experiences and thoughts with and yet, he was willing to discuss freely and openly with us all. Even in times when he and I would get into deeper discussions and disagreements over different issues, his faith, relationship with God, and love for the other person was always evident.

Pastor - Zion Church
Cliff provided leadership for a yearlong Racial Unity Discipleship Group in our community. The group met twice a month and read through and discussed Re-Discipling the White Church and The Color of Compromise. Cliff led the group of pastors and laity, white and black, with compassion and care. He was appropriately compassionate and patient as well as challenging when needed. Cliff brings passion, wisdom, and the ability to connect with a variety of individuals who are in different places when it comes to the topic of racial justice. Whether in person or on Zoom, Cliff led the group well and would be an asset to your ministry team.
